Recovering a Sense of Identity
When you learn to love and to let yourself be loved, you come home to the hearth of your own spirit. You are warm and sheltered. You are completely at one in the house of your own longing and belonging. – John O’Donohue
In ancient Celtic tradition the ‘house of belonging’ was used as a metaphor for the human body as the earthly home for the soul. In Week One of The Artist’s Way we work on creating a sense of safety in preparation for Week Two – returning home to reclaim our spirit.
Week two requires courage as we undergo a creative detox. Removing toxic people and situations from our life is not always easy, but it is essential if we are to gain our light of authenticity.
The word “authentic” comes from the Greek meaning “one who acts on his own authority”. Already discussed in Week One entry, it is essential that we become the author of our life and that we give up trying to please others.
If I look for acceptance outside of my Self or seek to please others, it results in getting what others want in my life and not what makes me happy! – Kazi
Perhaps the most exciting part of creative recovery is discovering who we are
Do not waste time explaining your actions to others. Remain faithful to the voice of intuition – trust in the link between yourself and God. – Kazi
Creativity is not about producing artwork, our art is one of the many by products of being a creative being. Creativity is the about the art of living, it’s not what we do but how we do it, that counts.
